Was anybody made take out private tax on their van and if so will you also have to do a DOE every year?

I know of two lads that were forced to take out private tax, one was a mechanic and he argued that if you privately tax a van it has to be NCT'd, and the NCT people WONT test vans! Similarly if you do pay private tax and go to the DOE people they'll turn you away, this lad got away with commercial tax for another year.
The other lad who has an astra-van (car/van) had been taxing the van for a few years and he argued that "ya cant just decide to change now"! He also came away with the commercial tax!

Be prepared to argue and bombard them with common sense! It just might work!

i got the commercial tax in sept. myself, wasn't asked to produce anything. just went in with the slip and they gave me commercial tax.
