Wildwater @ Eye Cinema Galway

Post by dermo99 » Tue Nov 09, 2010 7:08 pm

Many people have already seen the trailer for Wildwater @http://vimeo.com/12563837[/video]- pretty impressive.

Galway Kayak Club are happy to announce that they will host the European premiere of this film at the Eye Cinema in Galway on Thursday 2nd December, with an after party in the Huntsman pub. Director Anson Fogel will be present on the night to introduce his work and have a Q&Q with the audience.

More information is available on the Galway Kayak Club web site @ http://galwaykayakclub.com/ww/. Anyone interested in submitting a short paddling / water sports film of their own for the evening can also find more information on the event site.

Tickets are limited and can be booked online via the link just above. Any queries can be sent to the GKC email account via infoATgalwaykayakclub.com. Hope to see people there on the night - should be a good one!

With the help of NUIG Kayak Club some work from Olaf Obsommer will also be screened on the night to kick off proceedings - making what should be a great night for paddlers in Galway, even better!

Online ticket sales going well for this event - good interest not just locally in the west but from further afield as well ... we already have some travelling from the Pale planning to make a weekend of it and do some paddling over the next day or so after ... and for those who do want to be back in their own beds in the Pale that night the new motorway makes than a lot easier :)

Looking to be a very good night - come on down / up / over!

It should be renamed to 'Kayak Porn Orgy', I'll be bringing a cushion to cover my semi. (I Appreciate that this description will not help ticket sales, for that I apologise ;) )

Will this become a yearly thing? ie. Wouldn't be cool to invite famous kayakers to Galway at this time every year?

This is the dream scenario at the moment! It seems like it would be a bit of a waste not to build on the momentum and experience gained from the event this year. I'm sure plans for next year will start once we get in a few beers at the Huntsman. Lets see if any of the ideas stick once the hangovers have cleared ;)

Just to confirm, Olaf Obsommer will also be in attendance on the night, screening his two movies - "The Kingdom of Waterfalls” (Iceland) and “The Book of Legends” (Russia).

Hey folks,
there's also going to be a raffle held at the movie night with prizes from I-Canoe, River Deep, and more.
All the funds raised from the raffle are going straight to a woman called Kelley Kalatafitch, who is a kayaker and expeditioner who lost the use of her legs about three years back, she was on the expedition on the Blue Nile with Ali Donald previously, it's a decent cause.
So dig deep, and spend the price of a few cans, might pick yourself up a subscription to Kayak Session or something bigger!

All who braved the weather for three hours of paddling fun on the big screen at the Eye Cinema had a great night in Galway last night ... already rumblings of a similar event in future. Two films from Olaf Obsommer (pictured enjoying local hospitality with some folks who may be familiar to folks on the forum!), some local and international shorts, and Wildwater from Anson Fogel to finish.

Special thanks to all who provided prizes: Wavesport Ireland, River Deep Mountain High, Galway Triathlon Club, i-canoe, Munster Dive and Canoe, Kayak Session Magazine, East Coast Canoe and Kayak, Kayak Hut.

A grand total of €650 was raised for Kelley Kalatafitch on the night as well - everyones' generosity appreciated and congrats to those who won the great prizes.
