Kilcolgan Flood Relief Scheme

Hi Everyone,
I've previously posted this on the Galway Kayak Club website but thought it warrants wider circulation.
Galway County Council, Tobin Engineering and the OPW have posted details of proposed drainage works on the Dunkellin Catchment on the GCC website http://www.galway.ie/en/Services/Public ... ev%20B.pdf.
There are also numerous appendices on the main site.
There is alot of engineering detail to go through, happy reading!
From our point of view; they propose to widen the river mostly from Dunkellin Bridge (2nd Bridge) to the N18 road bridge by up to 50%, whilst leaving the salmon counter in place.
There is also a proposal to widen the river upsteam of the bridge too but I haven't figured if that includes the main rapid or not.
The upside is that they'll trim at least one river bank of trees for us, the downside is that they'll probably remove most of the features that interest us paddlers.
Oh, and a snip at an estimated €3,843,707 including VAT.
If there are any Civil Engineers out there who'd care to parse this for us please feel free.
