2009 Burn V's 2010 Burn, Advice needed

Post by vin6599 » Sat Jan 02, 2010 6:06 pm

Hi, looking for some help

I have a chance of buying a new 2009 Burn for what seems like a good price. Does anyoe know what differances there are between the new and old burn?

I'm new enough to Kayaking and this is the first boat i'm buying, would a novice like myself even notice the differences between the new and old models??

Also, i'm 6'3, approx 84kg, would i be better going for the Large burn or would medium be big enough?(For the Legs!!)

Any advice would be really apprecated,

Cheers

Vinny

There are a good few differences according to Pyranha, google it there are a few reviews of the new 2010 boat out, most of the reviews compare it to the older version.

I have just bought myself an older Medium Burn. Im 75ish kg and 5'10'' I fit in the smaller version too but I prefer having a bit more volume in the boat. I'd go for the older one if I were you I think its a great boat!

As for boat size I'm not sure, guess it depends on what type of whitewater your into. Just have a look at the weight ranges on the website.

For a novice boater Pyranha have another creeker, the Karnali. Its ment to be a real nice boat I've never been in one but so I hear. Its designed to have many features of the burn but be a bit more stable and novice friendly, while still being a proper creeker well capable of running anything. If I were you this is the boat I'd go for... http://www.pyranha.com/osb/itemdetails.cfm?ID=160

Have a good one

Tomas

You'll get the Karnali cheaper than the burn - they retail at 799 (I think) and you should be able to get a discount. The 2009 burn goes for around 850 but that's retailers trying to get rid of them to clear for the 2010 model (sfaik). Given this reduction I'd be surprised if you'll get as much of a discount.

The Karnali is quite an impressive boat IMO. Pyranha seem to have pitched it as a not-very-aggressive boat but as far as i can see it's as much as most people will need and it'd take quite a paddler to want anything more.
