Munster Blackwater

Howdy, 8 of us are planning to canoe down the Blackwater from Kerry (somewhere around Ballydesmond) to Youghal, leaving on the 7th or 8th of August. 6 of us are experienced, 2 beginners. Any advice on somewhere to put in? Also I don't see a river guide for the Blackwater, has anyone done this trip?

hello ha, myself and 2 mates were goin to do d same trip on d aug bank hol weekend. have ye discoverd anything to watch out for our any good camping spots? i hav kayaked from mallow too youghal in low to average water level, its a grand open easy goin river all d way with beautiful scenery and wildlife except at fermoy there is a weir and a bowel like drop on d river ,straight through weir in d centre for d most fun or keep right and slide down bowel face for safest route, next weir is half way between fermoy and ballyduff this is the same story as d weir at fermoy the next thing to watch out for is an old broken weir just before lismore, the river is tidal from cappaghquinn on and can be slow going but the otters might keep ye company.

all d best Shane.

Any comments from the two of you who were planning on going down the Blackwater in August? We are planning a trip in ten days time (starting 3rd September) in a Canadian canoe and particularly would like to know how far up the river one can start from, and how long it would take from there to Lismore at a leisurely pace (we are two botanists and stop a lot to stare at plants).
