So I've been trying to come up with a solution for the maps part of IWW.

Clearly the addition of GPS type stuff would be great, but the thing is google maps etc. dont have high res or detailed maps of parts of Ireland.

Enter Openstreetmap.org !!
http://www.openstreetmap.org
OpenStreetMap is a free editable map of the whole world. It is made by people like you.

OpenStreetMap allows you to view, edit and use geographical data in a collaborative way from anywhere on Earth.
Sweet!! What do ye think?
I have to do more research, but I think this might just be what we're after.

i like to judge mapping in ireland based on a few bohereens i know around the country...

i give openstreetmap a 4 out of 5! thats pretty good since OSI only got a 3 out of 5...

The thing is if its missing the 5th, you can add it if you have on your GPS or it features on their aerial photography, so you can trace it. And I also think its possible to feed in your own aerial photography...gotten elsewhere.

It looks like some mountain bikers are using their GPS's to map some of the Clare Glens:
