The gardai informed us that the upper liffey also claimed a jeep? That tried to cross that bridge friday night.
The driver got out just in time and bye bye 4x4.

Yep, apparently the guy got out of his jeep to have a look at the huge volume of water and while he was doing that, the jeep was washed away. Early Friday, there was water streaming down the road when you normally park and water lapping up on the metal of the bridge. We ran the river on Friday evening at good, but not crazy, levels, and it was all good, no new hazards.
The road is now blocked off at the top of the hill on the river-right side, so running shuttle means you have to park along the top road (the Sally Gap to Blessington one). You can still exit the river at the usual spot on river-left and access across the river by walking along the remaining wall. Well, until the next belt of rain...

Hey Seanie,
Is your Twitter from two days ago correct? Is the bridge now gone?
Jim.

I have no idea I got a text from colm, so I added it to the alerts.

Jim,
The river left side of the bridge is totally washed away, leaving the remainder of the bridge balancing on what looks like a snone wall....
I would not suggest people paddle under or near what is left as it looks like a strong gust would have the whats left in the river!

Re: Where Did I Leave That Bridge?
On saturday when I saw it, the bridge deck was still intact. The river right bund ( bridge support) was fine but the river left bund was 90% washed away. The remaining support was a single leaf stone wall approx 500mm wide... but the way is exposed it looks like the next large amount of water or gale winds will cause what is left fall taking the whol road deck with it.
I would said it was beonde remedial repair. I would have thought they willl take down what is remaining and install a pre cas deck and modular bunds.
