ICU Board Statement wrote:Irish Canoe Union T/A Canoeing Ireland – Board Statement December 2012

At the December Board meeting of Irish Canoe Union Limited T/A Canoeing Ireland which was held on the 12th December 2012 a motion was put to the Board by the Honorary President, a vote was taken and the motion was defeated. Subsequently, the executive, including the President resigned.

Immediately after the December Board meeting, legal advice was sought and steps were taken to ensure that the interests of the Irish Canoe Union T/A Canoeing Ireland and its members were protected. Two new Directors of the company were appointed. The former President removed his name as a director from the company register.

A Board meeting was convened for the 17th December 2012, in order to discuss the options available and any action required. A temporary chair and secretary were appointed for this meeting. The Board have agreed to meet in January to arrange a date for an EDM in early 2013.

In the interim the Board, will take responsibility for the continued operation of Canoeing Ireland, operating within the Memos and Articles, and in the best interests of Canoeing Ireland and all its’ members and stakeholders.

Yours Sincerely,

The Board of Irish Canoe Union Ltd T/A Canoeing Ireland

While this was expected, I would like to highlight some things:

1). The statement isn't signed by anyone.

2). We have no idea who's still on the board and what positions they hold.

3).

I appreciate that the current situation is an emergency, and interm measures are needed to keep things running. But there is no way the current board is "operating within the Memos and Articles". It's simply impossible, and to state that you are is disingenuous.

The "ICU Governance Policy" has been removed from the ICU website and the Memorandum and Articles is not the latest version (it's a version from several years ago). If you're going to reference a document in a statement, it might be helpful if we could access that document.

Well, I got a lot of email and PM's. Most people are afraid of being sued if they speak their minds. It's a sad state of affairs.

Brendan O'Brien is the new Irish Canoe Union Secretary and Eamon Fleming is an Irish Canoe Union Director. See the attached document from the CRO.
