Upper Roughty Access Issues

Post by Colmj » Mon May 07, 2012 7:33 pm

Hi All.

A group of us from cork were approached at the get on of the upper roughty today by a man claiming to own the land at the get on, and all down the river. He told us that we could not get on because the land was private property. Eventually anyway we got out of him (after being as polite as humanly possible to man telling us to shut up) that it would be fine to get on further up river. So we drove about 500m up the road and seal launched over a ditch into the river. We did see him driving by a good few times while we were on the river too.

Just to be aware to maybe get on the river a bit further up stream if you are paddling the upper roughty to avoid any potential hassle.

Also the crack of doom is still blocked

Hi
Be interested to know few more details- never had problem here before.

Also, was paddling lower section of roughty about ten days ago. (for first time in ages)
Noticed at the take out that the section of sheep fencing where we usually climb over had been completely broken down.
Obviously dont know who did this but its reasonable to assume it was another group of paddlers, after all only people in and out there are us and anglers.
I do feel as uninvited guests on other peoples land we have a duty of care towards their property, and if we dont problems such as the one above will only increase.
