Tree on the Beamish
There's a tree right across the Beamish maybe five minutes above the short-takeout bridge. It's completely blocking the river for any level you would want to be on the Beamish, so you have to walk around, which is easily done on river left. Be careful in big water as you wouldn't have much reaction ...

What's the story with the fence at the Dargle put-in?
Hi all, There's a new fence at the Dargle put-in. It looks recent (there's sawdust lying around) and it covers only the bit you see in the picture below (picture courtesy of Kate): http://www.mananamanana.com/images/extra/dargle_put-in.jpg At first glance it looks specifically designed to stop peopl...

Re: Anyone ever run this bad boy?
I think we would have heard if anyone did...
How high is it? How deep is the plunge pool at low tide? Where is it (is it the one near Crab Island in Clare?)? How heavily had it been raining when the photo was taken? What's going on Ted?

Any water about?
Apparently it rained last night. Anything running down in Wicklow? Anything likely to be running Friday morning?

Re: Clare Glens Notice
I think what Rosco means (correct me if I am wrong) is to get off river left 50+ meters above "sidewinder", then walk back to path that leads to "top drop" and follow it the long way down to the foot bridge to inspect the Sidewinder - Constriction . If you are going to portage the rapid then go a f...

Re: Clare Glens Notice
I'm not sure what the Conservation Ranger is asking us not to do here: Recommendations 1. No putting in/taking out should occur within 50m either side of the constriction unless there is an emergency. Are we not supposed to put-in/take-out there, as in, park cars somewhere and hike in to the river (...

Re: Upper Liffey Gauge
. . . the Annamoe gauge . . . appears to be reading low at the moment? Sean Eoinor had to move the Annamoe gauge recently, so the 'old' levels are no longer an indicator. I think he's recalibrating at the moment, so anyone who runs the Annamoe should post up the level as they experienced it, giving...

Re: Kayaking books
I think this is the one you mean: "Courting the Diamond Sow : A Whitewater Expedition on Tibet's Forbidden River" by Wick Walker. I have a copy of it somewhere, but haven't got around to reading it yet.
