Re: Voting at ICU AGM
Tony is right, Sadly to submit an motion as an indivual member is not overly straight forward. Had to make sure and include the first bit! You know I love to be right! As regards things not being simple, if you think about it I can see the point to the above. An organised "coup" could ensue i...

Re: Voting at ICU AGM
Is it stating the obvious to suggest that you can always submit a motion to change it?

Re: Etiquette: Pint Rescue (or swim beers) vs Swim Bootie
Swim bootie.... yuk! I think I'd get sick if I drank anything out of my river shoes. Teva Sunkosis won't hold anything long enough to drink from it anyway! I don't think it should cancel it out. To add another side - Should the swimmer be buying for everyone involved? eg. if someone swims and I get ...

Re: What should a college club aspire to?
Ok, maybe to take it a little bit of a different direction.... safety, disciplines, progression of the sport (& techniques), competition, proficiency, fleet, international paddling..... WRT the above.... what scope do you think clubs should cover? Safety - Wilderness EMT, stuff/REC2/3/4, SRT Discipl...

Re: What should a college club aspire to?
Not knocking your reply as it's very very valid Bowsie but just to add to the question.... What I'm more interested in asking is What should a college club aspire to be ? I'm thinking more with respect to how far in a paddler's abilities can (should?) people expect a college club to be able to provi...

Re: What should a college club aspire to?
Most specifically because college clubs are a big source of paddlers. You'd have to say that probably the majority of active club members are paddling through college clubs. There are other reasons, like budget and facilities available through the colleges. And also because sometimes in college club...

What should a college club aspire to?
A post I spotted on a club message board got me thinking about this. Of course everyone has their favourite "disciplines" (I repeatedly call polo "gay" but that's mostly just for banter - still I have no interest in it) but overall, what should a college club aspire to? Think: safety, disciplines, p...

Re: Boluisce "Top Drop" Grade
I think it would be an excellent addition. I wonder coulde you do it by drop down?
pool/drop
short rapids
some continuous rapids
continuous from start to finish
Or would that cover it - I'm sure there are other suggestions for character types??

Re: Irish grading
For me on any given day a river is either grade ‘yes’ or grade ‘no’ I like this approach - all too often paddlers fall into the trap of saying no to a run because the guidebook puts a number (ok - letter if you want to be technical!) on a run that people think is beyond them. The thing is t...

Re: Low brace turns, pointless?
Personally, I don't think that teaching the low brace turn with the cavaet of that it is only usefull in weak water is something that gets locked into someone's paddling. I don't think it did with me, having been tought the more active method of paddling the inside of the turn I can't say that I use...

Re: Low brace turns, pointless?
Think I'd be on board with you there Mike.... Horses for courses sort of thing. And if the assessment itself is essentially about break-outs rather than specifically having to do a LB turn then it's more about the assessor's interpretation. Definitely very much in agreement with the coaching of dyna...

Re: ICU and recreational paddlers.
Right... it took me a while to think about this reply because, as mentioned in my first post, I never wanted this to become an ICU bashing thread. My "what's the point in joining for recreational paddlers" question was not asked in frustration - it was an invitation for someone to say "Well, here ar...
