Re: Paddling in the Alps, any words of wisdom?
The latest issue of KS has an instruction dvd made by David Arnaud in it, filmed on some of the classic runs. Even as a guide, it's pretty helpful, and obviously as a learning tool. I'm really impressed with his shooting style, he's rigged up some kind of A frame on the back deck of his boat for fil...

The main thing I got from the first river I ran over there that it's a lot faster than Ireland, so sharpen up your response times.

THe video isn't that great in istelf, but the falls look beautiful, and the quality is what I really wanted to show people. This is why vimeo is better than youtube.

Re: The Evolution of Kayaking Safety
I guess the big turning points would be structured safety and rescue courses that are recognised internationally, and improvements in gear - plastic boats, floating ropes. And your guess is as good as mine, I vouldn't tell you where we are on the timescale of evolution, but hopefully it'll still kee...

Re: Doug Ammons lectures
Fair play for getting in touch with him. I reckon i should be able to muster up a group from DCU to go. It would make it a lot easier to get members if it were in a more central location but its up to yourself. I agree, somewhere like Ballinasloe or Athlone would make for an easier drive for a lot ...

Re: Doug Ammons lectures
I'm on to Doug at the moment seeing if it'd be feasible to organise a talk here, probably in Galway, round the end of March. Would people be interested in travelling to it? As he puts it, the "show starts in the broadest terms and funnels into one of the most challenging and beautiful places in the ...
