Re: Group briefings and debriefings
Its a great Idea. Never experienced it in a formal sense before going to the afore mentioned (by seanie) club. There was always a bit of it in the pub after of course but things can be forgotten at that stage, people don't really contribute/ listen and often times not EVERYONE that was on the trip a...

Re: Hydrospeed
I wouldn't imagine that there is many places suitable in Ireland for this. You need a large, high volume river to do this as your whole body is exposed to river obstructions. Also you need a decent bit of flow. So Its probably possible on the lower corrib and will be the coldest fastest 30seconds of...

Re: Where to paddle in Ireland
Hi Bojan
What part of Ireland are you coming to visit? What is your plan for the 2 weeks?
Kayaking in ireland is not as reliable as in Slovenia. The rivers only work here after rain, and even though it rains alot in ireland this summer doesn't seem to be raining enough (yet).

Re: Instructors saftey standards
Their is a difference between kayaking and open boating and the grades of wtaer which they happen on. K boat racers going down wiers dont wear helmets! Should the ICU change this? Sea kayakers dont wear helmets but may have to land in big surf on a rock beach should they wear helmets? My answer to ...

Re: Gauge alternative
People are more than welcome to think of new ideas or designs but remember these things don't happen overnight, how are you going to power all that stuff? how are you going to waterproof it and designing software that runs without many glitches can sometimes be difficult? now who is jumping the gun...

Gauge alternative
I've been thinking of going this route lately. All the talk of river gauges costing E600 and shit loads of time and effort why not spend the money differently! Buy a Linutop computer (http://www.linutop.com/linutop2/index.en.html) for E280. They run on minimal power (compared to other computers) abo...

Re: Paddling in the Alps, any words of wisdom?
dont underestimate the rivers, pictures online and views from the road make them look alot easier than they are, also when the guide book says its a grade 3, it will be more like a grade 3+ or 4 of an irish river (in terms of challange, obviously its tough to compare alpine rivers to irish ditches)....
