Where has the water gone?
So many paddler folk I've spoken to recently have been saying that this is the worst year for paddling they remember. I thought I'd have a look at Met Eireann's records to see what's been going on. Here is what they said for the past 3 years about Shannon airport records and in general for the count...

Hey Tiernan, is this from the Red Bull magazine that comes with the Irish Times? Do you know what day that is in it?

Re: Dodder clean up
Congrats to Dru and his team on their Dodder cleanup effort recently. They were featured on RTE's Dirty Old Towns project and 2FM, see the link below, they are at approx 20 mins. Great to see more river cleanups happening around the country.

Re: Boyle River Chemical Spill
If people come across such spills please try to inform the EPA, local authorities and fisheries as soon as possible. Remember that chemical spills can seriously affect your health and you should stay off the water if in any doubt. Palm oil is definitely going to have a negative effect on the river e...

Re: Dodder clean up
Hi kmck, I have a half dozen litter pickers and a lot of spare bags that were left over from a recent river cleanup on the Boyne. If they would be any use to you let me know and I can get them to you somehow. It's great to see more initiatives like this going on around the country.

Pyrenees please
Has anyone boated in the Pyrenees in the last few years? If you have what were the standout runs, what would you recommend (IV+)? Anyone thinking of going over in early May that would be willing to pool resources I'd be interested to hear from you. Time to start planning the summer boating...

Re: Checking a drybag as Sports Eqpt
Be careful making decisions based on what they say over the phone. Certainly with Ryanair it means absolutely nothing and it completely depends who turns up at the desk. Wear all the heavy stuff on the plane boots etc (I've seen buoyancy aids being worn on!) and get a very big and light bag (big dry...

River/Beach Cleanups 24-27th March
The Surfrider Foundation Europe and its many associates is again promoting a Europe and world wide week of local action to clean up our rivers, lakes, and beaches. These events are organised by local clubs and community groups and were a great success last year. There are more than a dozen cleanups ...

Re: visiting ireland
Hi Jon, the rivers run year round in Ireland as we depend on short periods of heavy rainfall for most of the whitewater. If you are going south then there are a few classics that deserve attention. Co. Kerry has the highest concentration of whitewater in the country so if its raining it could be wor...
