Re: A question I have for Nominees for ICU Executive Committ

I am a member of Celbridge Paddlers Canoe Club which I joined as a parent of young children, keen to try out canoein...

Re: A question I have for Nominees for ICU Executive Committ
As far as I can see, the support in those statements isn't so much a vote in favour of Pat McAlhinney as a vote against Eamon flemming. I really hope that this is not the case and that people vote based on their respective merits as candidates. I have never met Pat McAlinney but based on the manife...

Re: ICU AGM 2011 - 50th ADM Motions & Nominations
Yeah, i'd go along with that! Seems a lot simpler than multiplying club votes by a factor of x and then square rooting the product etc. Democracy shouldn't involve complex algebra...
1 man 1 vote. If you cannot vote, give your vote to someone who you trust (so long as this process can be verified).

Re: ICU AGM 2011 - 50th ADM Motions & Nominations
@ Roshaw87 How would a club vote then? Entire clubs should show up at the AGM? (Don't take this post as criticism, i'm in favour of 1 man, 1 vote but i think that allocating proxy votes has its benefits). My preference would be 1 man 1 vote, with the following caveat. Club members can sign over thei...

Re: A question I have for Nominees for ICU Executive Committ
BOB, are there any plans to deal with former members of the executive that were implicated in the findings of the Mick Scanlon investigation? If memory serves, former ICU president Brendan O'Connell's name was mentioned in several of the findings of fact. I don't see how people like this should get ...

Re: ICU AGM 2011 - 50th ADM Motions & Nominations
Considering the massive "discrepencies" in previous ICU audits which were identified by Noel and the board, i think it would be downright negligent if the ICU was not seen to safeguard against this happening again! This motion should be seen as a prudent move by the executive, and will hopefully res...

Re: A question I have for Nominees for ICU Executive Committ
Great question Seanie! I'm not too familiar with the election procedures at the AGM. Are all nominees going to be afforded the opportunity to state their case as to why they should be elected? I would have grave concerns over the motives for some of the nominees running in this election... As previo...

Re: ICU AGM 2011 - 50th ADM Motions & Nominations
+1 on the Audit committee!
Had this been in place over the past 10 years, it is possible that much of the corruption which Mick Scanlon et al. were involved in could have been identified. This is a very good motion and hopefully will get passed...

Re: CENSORSHIP ON SEANIE'S WEBSITE
Noel and the rest of the board have made huge sacrifices over the past year! None of us can fully contemplate the level of stress and pressure that these volunteers have undergone! The board had to stand firm for practically an entire year, against a tide of protests, legal cases, letters circulated...

Re: RE: New "High Performance" Centre to be based at Lucan?
Secondly, is a high performance centre really what the sport in this country needs? Thirdly, in the depths of a recession where did the money for this come from? This smacks of the same old same old. Creating a centre for the "athletes" and disregarding the ordinary paddlers who make up the bulk of...

Re: Canoe Ireland Wishlist
Cheers for the replies BOB! I must say it is great to be able to having an open discussion about our hopes for the federation and to have active board members involved in that. Long may it continue! RE my 6th suggestion: That was made prior to me reading the detailed report which was circulated by t...
