Re: Good online kayaking Vids

lads don't forget that the area arounf constrictor is a special area of conservation where your meant to minimise the amount of people who seal launch or walk there.Theres a more fun seal launch below the bridge thats outside the sac and the area is easily avoided apart from setting up rescue ...

Re: RE: New "High Performance" Centre to be based at Lucan?

Adrian I agree with your points. (The infrastructure one was blindingly obvious). Im not looking for a whitewater course either, would be nice though. Im looking for a bit more bang for my buck when it comes to me paying my membership.

I pay membership but some of the money goes towards funding a ...

RE: New "High Performance" Centre to be based at Lucan?

Does anybody know anything about this "high performance centre" which Lucan Co. Council and the ICU/Canoe Ireland have been in discussions over?

I became aware of this through a friend on facebook who posted a pic of the proposal in the local paper in Lucan.
From the conversation which followed ...

Re: Seanie Should Stand for Election

What Leftism has said about the Intervasities and college clubs is spot on.

The Intervarsities in my view have surpassed the Liffey Descent as Ireland premier, all inclusive competition. I ve had to pleasure of being at the last 3 and will be at my fourth in February. I cant wait for it.

The ...

Re: ICU Statement on the Suspension of CEO Michael Scanlon

What are the implications of this for clubs? Or does anyone know?

Will the insurance which the ICU gives to clubs when they pay memebership be still valid if the ICU does end up in financial bother as a result of this court case?

Re: College Clubs and Whitewater

Just as we have the equipment shops having stalls at the events the instructors could set up stalls showing skills that can be taught, it could be as simple as having different type of throw bags to try out which one suits you best.

Thats a very good idea. Hope somoene proposes that at the ...

Re: College Clubs and Whitewater

In response to those who disagree with my statment about a rescue event at Varsities trivialisng rescues:

1st: I never once said that rescue work shouldnt be done as one person seemed to claim I said.
My home club regularly practices throwbagging/rescue work with our juniors. Senior paddlers in the ...

Re: College Clubs and Whitewater

We have a life guard in our club and he continually goes own about the lifeguard rescue events where teams compete.
Personally I think this is outrageous. Rescuing someone is not a sport and shouldnt be treated as such.
Making something a sport, makes it seem fun. As anyone who has had to deal with ...

Strainer and trees on Clare Glens

There is a fairly big strainer at the bottom of Sidewinder.
Not very obvious from above. The only thing that gave it away was the branches becoming visible as the stopper died down. The main branch is buried into the v at where the drop and the opposite wall meet. Wouldnt move when we tried to pull ...

Re: Sweet Strutters, are they solid?

We had an incident on the Annamoe last November that could have been avoided if a different helmet had been worn.

A helmet similiar in style to the Strutter was involved. Cant remember the name. It was a ShredReddy I think. Hummingbird or Shaggy? Basically it lacked ear protection much like the ...

STRAINER ON THE CLARE GLENS

Hi everyone,

Ran the Clare Glens yesterday and came across a very nasty strainer in Sidewinder.

Its a huge bough of a tree wedged into the v where the ledge of the drop and opposite wall meet.

It extends the whole way down along the feature. Most of it is hidden just underwater except for the ...
