Re: He spotted something in the water approximately 1km sout
Folks, I have to agree with all said so far, but I would also like to point out a couple of very basic flaws in companies behaviour beyond that already spoken of; 1. Weather should have been checked in advance...it was obvious that conditions were unsuitable. The trip should haven cancelled. 2. Equi...

Re: Looking for a video...
Hi Seanie, I think you might be referring to the Dactylcam system? I remember seen it referred to in a video on the Teva mountain games. The video is gone now (it used to be referred to in the "Good Kayaking Vids" post, but it is no longer on youtube or Vimeo. Try Googling Dactylcam though, that was...

Re: after some advice
Hi Tony, In terms of your location, I'm not sure about basing yourself in Offaly. The central region of the country is mainly lakes and relatively flat rivers. You are a long way from grade 3 action or above. The main action tends to be in either Wicklow or Kerry area (that is not to say there is st...

Re: traveling down the full length of the Inny river
Hi Scott, I agree with Seanie on this, don't do this without some proper training and some experienced leadership. I am paddling for 8 years, I am a qualified instructor and a former club safety officer, I have completed a number of river safety & rescue courses. I am not trying to boast or posture ...

Car Stolen While Defrosting - Please be ware
Hey Folks, Just a heads up that I had my car stolen while defrosting it last week, I went into the house for 90 seconds and it was gone. Silly I know, but be ware. People are targetting housing estates on frosty mornings. i would appreciate it if you could keep your eyes open for a silver Ford Focus...

Re: ICU AGM Motions
I'm certain a cap was brought in, like Adrian I thought it was 2008, could have been 2009...it was the AGM held at Kilcullen that this rule was brought in. The reason I remember was one of the ICU executive members lost their seat, accidentally, as a result of the rule change. I think the rule was t...

Re: Where to learn Kayaking in Wicklow
The season for beginners courses at most clubs is closed now, the water is getting a bit cold. That said there might be one or two still going on around the place. For a complete list of clubs, check out the link below. https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B1BGF35XclBZNWMzYTYyMDctZDk1Ny00ZDg5LWIzODEtMTM...

Re: Kayaking Avonmore
Hi Sedantez, I'm glad you enjoyed yourself but I think you should heed the advice from Adrain. I know this river extremely well and have paddled it in low & very high water conditions. Without proper equipment, training & leadership, you are taking a very great risk. Sit on tops are totally inapprop...

Re: Prepairing for an ICU EGM
Hey Seanie, I'm fascinated by all of these goings on, fair play to you for taking the stand you have. I was there at the 2009 AGM and remember you flagging some very good points! By the way, do you know if TDU membership counts the same as ICU membership? I think I'd like to go along... Thanks Dave ...

Re: Sweet Strutters, are they solid?
I'm using a strutter for years now with now issues and it's seen it's fair share of action without any problem. I never heard of any technicals issues with them. If a helmet gets a bang it should be replaced (most helmets are only rated for one impact...there are types rated for more but I've never ...

Re: Instructors saftey standards
Hey Guys, Adrian is right this is a can of worms. I'm not going to debate the rights or wrongs of this, it's pretty self evident. But I will say that for a company doing this, I would say this was extremely dicey from a legal and insurance point of view. Anyone who read the MCIB report on the Gaddag...

Re: Help - Weil's disease or leptospirosis
Hi Sean, First off, fair play to yourself & Shane for taking this initiative, it's great to see people looking to do the right thing. Just a quick note that Weils is a notifiable illness to the public health. Anyone seeking treatment for this are immediately referred to the public health and the inc...
