Re: Rush to select a new Canoe Union CEO/GM
To the best of my knowledge neither Karl or Noel (and I am certain) knew that a date was set (as per the rest of the board) nor did they agree to actually to sedn out the unapproved job description (for advertisement purposes) I believe the past president did this on his own initatvie. I expressed m...

Re: Rush to select a new Canoe Union CEO/GM
Well the past president has been involved from the start of the recrtitment process and frankly he is relatively independent. While another board member might be preferable to be impartial it would have to be somone not from WWKC which limits the selection. Effectively Eamon is quite impartial and h...

Re: Rush to select a new Canoe Union CEO/GM
And another thing Liz. While the president may or may not be the line manager. The day of the president and chief executive (general manager) having a cozy arragement is long over. Line manager or not it will be the board who makes the final selection of staff not the president. No longer will criti...

Re: Rush to select a new Canoe Union CEO/GM
A response to Liz Byrnes comments (the ones I can remember) Can I firstly say Karl Dunne and Eamon Devoy are not such close friends as you make out, in fact prior to their involvement at ICU board level their interaction would have been minimal. And I know this with certainty as both KArl and Eamon ...

Re: Conflict of Interest with Related Party Transaction
Dear Liz In reference to the reference that there may be a conflict of interest in Neil Flemming having a conflict of interest with his father being on the Marathon committee, can I assure you that Neil (nor anyone else) recieves favorable treatment from any other paddler in reciept of funding. We h...

Re: ICU AGM 2011 - 50th ADM Motions & Nominations
No I wouldnt mind, I think the current voters (clubs) will object. And there is the risk one or 2 clubs could pack the meeting and reduce the current level of democracy . But if you think thats better and the floor support it - go for it ! But as part of the review I think a complete new articles sh...

Re: A question I have for Nominees for ICU Executive Committ
Hi I'll probably get into trouble for saying anything but. We agreed a 4 year terms I I prefered shorter (3), but democracy rules) I suspect the appointment might be in January (thats just a guess) based on the process continuing as planned and no major changes of direction at the AGM. No one has be...

Re: ICU AGM 2011 - 50th ADM Motions & Nominations
Currently if your a club member your committee represent you - like it or lump it unless you have some internal rules to the contarfy. So currently say your chairperson represents you - this stays EXACTLY the same.
No the audit committee is voluntary.

Re: A question I have for Nominees for ICU Executive Committ
Does anyone have a copy of the election manifesto Declan Mc Daid has circulated (to some clubs only: I presume we call that partial transparency ???) I believe there is a claim he plans if elected to return the organisation to financial stability ? I would be keen to see the exact detail if anyone c...

Re: ICU AGM 2011 - 50th ADM Motions & Nominations
The porposal to set up an audit committee was based on an audit by PWC in 2005 or 2006, they recommneded (from my memory) that an independent audit committee be set up basically to audit the operation of the ICU (financial largely if I remember correctly). At the time the CX and executive / board de...

Re: ICU AGM 2011 - 50th ADM Motions & Nominations
The idea of the vote for individual members was to bring soem sort of say to individual members (which make up 30% of the ICU). I felt the concept of individual members having to try find 9 other members at the ADM was unreasonable and discouraged people attending the ADM. It makes no change to the ...
